Ipilimumab is a novel kind of cancer treatment that is intended to treat melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It is a member of the immune checkpoint inhibitor class and targets T cell-surface protein CTLA-4, which is essential for controlling the immunological response. Ipilimumab enables the immune system to recognize and efficiently eliminate cancer cells by blocking CTLA-4.
